Winemaking philosophy «

Napa Valley was formed millions of years ago by  tectonic plate movement and violent volcanic eruptions that created the rugged Vaca mountain range to the east and pristine Mayacamas  range to the west.  Both frame the valley floor that runs approximately 26 miles from north to south. CourAvant is located mid-valley on the southern border of the St. Helena AVA at the base of the Mayacamas and the northern reaches of the famed Rutherford Bench.  Given its unique location, the vineyard benefits from both the intricate qualities of volcanic soil eroded from the mountain and the famed St. Helena alluvial fan on the valley floor.  When combined, the vineyard embodies an individual diversity of distinct soil types matched to specific clonal selections of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The vines were planted in the early 1990s and lend an old-vine character to the classic Left Bank Bordeaux-style that we endeavor to preserve accented by the personality of Napa Valley. We strive to enhance your ultimate dining pleasure by carefully merging the qualities of meticulous vineyard care with an old-fashioned hands-on and laid-back winemaking regimen.

2020 CourAvant Proprietary Red «

Our 2020 CourAvant Propietary Red Wine once again mirrors our vineyard profile of one-third Merlot and two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon.  The estate grown blend is reflective of the unique power of our Merlot coupled with the elegance of Cabernet.  Translucent shades of crimson provide an eye-catching impression of youth that carries forward on the nose with red berry notes complemented by the depth of black cherry, sage, violets and a subtle background touch of oak.  Leaning to the savory side, the palate is bold yet elegant with an engaging mouthfeel highlighted by vivid impressions of cranberry and raspberry coupled with the underlying character of blueberries, and cassis.  Finely grained tannins and brilliant acidity provide the structural framework leading to a long and layered finish.   A wine to enjoy now for its youthful charm and to hold for years to come as it gains complexity and nuance with time in the bottle. A rare cut of beef is a natural partner, but don’t overlook lamb sirloin or grilled game meats to pair with our 2020 Proprietary Red Wine.
